What began as a small, passionate group of skaters at South Molton’s outdoor skatepark lead by Verity Hanson (Skate Molton founder) has blossomed into a community-driven organisation dedicated to making skating accessible for all. Here’s the story of how Skate Molton CIC came to life and the exciting opportunities we now offer.
Humble Beginnings:
An Unofficial Skate Club Skate Molton began as an unofficial skate club way back in 2016, bringing together local skaters to enjoy and improve their skills at South Molton's outdoor skatepark amongst friends. Fuelled by a shared passion for skating and a desire to grow the local skating community, we started organising informal meetups that quickly gained traction among skaters of all ages and the local community. Our mission from the outset was clear: create a space where everyone could feel welcome, supported, and empowered to thrive through skating.
Officially a CIC:
Expanding Our Vision In September 2022, we took a significant step forward by registering as a Community Interest Company (CIC). This transition allowed us to formalise our operations and pursue our mission on a broader scale. With the generous support of the South Molton Town Council and local businesses, we began hosting free-to-attend events at South Molton Pannier Market. These events brought the community together, offering skate sessions, non-skate related workshops, and access to other services and charitable organisations. Over time, they became a cornerstone of our efforts to make skating accessible to all, regardless of experience or financial means.
Opening Skate Molton HQ:
A New Era After nearly two years of hosting outdoor events and engaging the community, we reached a pivotal milestone: the opening of Skate Molton HQ, an indoor skatepark and community hub. This facility represents the heart of our mission. It’s more than just a skatepark; it’s a space where the community comes together to learn, connect, and grow. At Skate Molton HQ, we now offer:
• Home Education and SEN Skate Sessions: Tailored sessions designed to support home-educated children and those with special educational needs.
• Affordable Mixed Skate Sessions: Open to all ages and abilities, fostering inclusivity and fun.
• 1-to-1 and Group Lessons: Professional coaching in both roller skating and skateboarding, led by qualified instructors, including certified Skateboard GB coaches.
• Fantasy Games Nights: Every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 9pm, the Skate Molton HQ transforms into a haven for adventurers, strategists, and dreamers. Whether you're navigating the treacherous dungeons of D&D with our expert Dungeon Master or commanding armies in epic Warhammer battles guided by a specialist, the night promises endless excitement. Challenge your friends on Xbox and other consoles, or dive into the world of Pokémon at our dedicated table, where enthusiasts will help you "catch 'em all."
• Private hires and birthday parties: Exclusive use of Skate Molton HQ for 2 hours! Up to 16 skaters, additional spectators welcome. Bring your own, skates, scooter or skateboard or use ours. Free kit hire, skate marshal to supervise and assist any beginners. Unlimited squash, printable invites. Feel free to bring your own food and birthday cake. All for just £160.

What started as a grassroots initiative has evolved into a dynamic community hub that continues to break barriers and provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy skating.
